Foam Fire Extinguishers
Foam fire extinguishers are perhaps the first type that comes to mind when we think of fire extinguishers. Fire extinguishers are colour coded depending on their type; foam fire extinguishers are red with an cream-coloured band at the top.
What Can Foam Fire Extinguishers Be Used For?
Foam fire extinguishers are to be used on Class A and Class B fires. These fire classes cover fires involving the following substances:
- Solid materials like wood, paper and textiles
- Flammable liquids like oil, diesel and petrol
The foam works by suffocating the material to prevent oxygen from worsening the fire. By forming a seal over the liquid, oxygen cannot get to it – it is important to note that foam extinguishers shouldn’t be used on free-flowing liquids; the foam won’t be able to form a seal.
Fire and Security Group are able to install, maintain and repair foam fire extinguishers for businesses around the UK. Our extinguishers are BS 5306-3-compliant, and kitemarked by the British Standard to certify their quality.
